Geodex Help

The AGSL Geodex Web Map allows library patrons and staff allows users to search for maps in a series that have been recorded in the library's extensive Geodex catalogue. Users may search by geographic location, series, date, or a combination of all of these.

If you require any assistance beyond the scope of this help section, please visit us in person, call us at (414) 229-6282 or e-mail gisdata@uwm.edu.

On the Search tab, you may search for records based on a variety of parameters.

The Extent Search Type refers to the map on this page. Pan and zoom the map to your preferred search area, and choose whether you wish to search for records that intersect the current view—they may not be entirely located in your current extent—or records that are located entirely within your current view.

After clicking Search Geodex button, you will be taken to a list of search results. If there are too many records to comfortably sort through, you may want to change your search and reduce the year range or geographic search area.

Click on the map icon next to any record to display its boundaries on the map. You may wish to adjust the outline color or automatic pan settings located at the bottom left corner of the map pane.

If you wish to return to your original search location, click on Return to search extent.

When searching, you may come across records that you wish to reference later. Click on the bookmark icon next to a record to add it to your list of saved records.

These records can be referenced in the Saved tab. After clicking Update saved records list—there may be a few seconds' delay—your list of saved records will appear, along with options to export or print the list. This may be useful if, for instance, you wish to bring the list to the AGS Library to assist with your research.
